Latest news from Bayern

It turned into a classic cup encounter on Wednesday. Alexander Straus’s team looked to be heading out in the closing minutes against Frankfurt before Jovana Damnjanović’s dramatic late leveller forced the tie to extra-time at 1-1. The Bundesliga champions then held their nerve in the additional period, scoring three more times through captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir after being set up by Momoko Tanikawa, who then got her first Bayern goal, before Damnjanovic completed her brace.

Bayern’s league form is also good with wins in each of the last five. They have started this calendar year with victories at RB Leipzig (1-0) and Hoffenheim (3-1). The goal now is to continue that streak at home against their favourite opponent. There is no other team Bayern have faced so often in the Bundesliga (15) while maintaining a 100 percent winning record. FCB have also kept clean sheets in the last 10 encounters with Werder.

Bayern won the reverse fixture 4-0 thanks to goals from Lea Schüller, Georgia Stanway, Pernille Harder and Damnjanović.

"A demanding game"

Alexander Straus: “Bremen are a good team. They beat Frankfurt away this season and have now knocked Leverkusen out of the cup. We need to expect a demanding game. They have good structure and have beaten big teams this year. We’ll use our delight from the quarter-final on Wednesday and go into the game with that energy. We’ve started the second half of the season well and are in a good position. We want to focus on that.”
