Latest news from Bayern

The Munich Frauen returned to competitive action last week, with Magdalena Eriksson’s header from a corner enough to earn victory in Leipzig. The result kept Bayern level on points with Bundesliga leaders Eintracht Frankfurt, with only goal difference keeping the defending champions off top spot.

It’s tight in general at the business end of the table, with only three points separating Frankfurt in first and Bayer Leverkusen down in fourth. A fifth straight league victory is therefore a must for Alexander Straus and his team at Hoffenheim if they’re to keep pace or even lay down a marker at the summit.

Hoffenheim are also on a winning run of their own on the back of three league victories and a DFB Cup triumph over Bochum. They resumed the season for 2025 with an impressive display against Freiburg, moving up to fifth thanks to the 3-0 win. Belgian striker Jull Janssens scored twice.

The reverse fixture at the FC Bayern Campus saw the Munich Frauen run out 5-1 winners. Georgia Stanway’s penalty cancelled out an early TSG goal, before Pernille Harder put away a hat-trick and Sydney Lohmann added further gloss to the scoreline.

Team news

Straus remains without Lena Oberdorf (knee ligaments), Katharina Naschenweng (knee joint) and Stanway (knee ligaments). Magou Doucouré is still working on her fitness and not yet available, while goalkeeper Mala Grohs will continue having some playing time with the second team following her return to training. Sarah Zadrazil is set to be back in the fold after her hamstring strain, with Franziska Kett also fit again after missing the Leipzig game will illness.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “I think the game on Sunday will be different from the reverse fixture. We’ve looked at lots of Hoffenheim’s games, and they’ve come on a lot since the start of the season. They had a number of changes at the start of the season, including a new coach. It takes time to gel together. But now their work is bearing fruits and they’re very different from a few months ago. I’m sure Hoffenheim will pick up lots of points in the second half of the season and will be a big challenge for every team, including the top teams. We’ve prepared as best we can. It won’t be easy, but our goal and demand is to win.”

Ena Mahmutovic: “Hoffenheim are a good team with really good players. If we’re at 100 percent and play with our qualities, we’ll win this game.”
