Latest news from Bayern

Bayern sealed their third championship in a row with two games to spare thanks to the 3-1 victory over Freiburg last Sunday. Watched by club president Herbert Hainer and board member for sport Max EberlLea Schüller (21’), Pernille Harder (67’) and Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir (79’) were on the scoresheet for Munich, who once again proved their title ambitions. The victory over the Breisgau outfit was their 11th in a row in the league and leaves head coach Alexander Straus’ side in an unassailable position at the top of the table.

Just a few days later, FCB crowned the first double in the team’s history with a commanding 4-2 win over Werder Bremen in the DFB Cup final on Thursday evening. Now the winning run should be continued in Jena.

The opponents: Carl Zeiss Jena

It’s been a challenging season for Carl Zeiss Jena in the Bundesliga, but they’ve already ensured their top-flight status for another year. With two matchdays left, the Thüringerin club are 10th in the table with 10 points. Following back-to-back 1-0 wins over 1. FC Köln and Turbine Potsdam, Florian Kästner’s side suffered a 3-0 loss away to Bremen. Jena have particularly struggled in attack this term, scoring just seven goals – the second-lowest tally in the league. Now they come up against the best defence in the competition.

The record against Bayern also speaks for itself: Jena have never beaten FCB in 25 Bundesliga meetings to date. In the last seven, the German champions haven’t even conceded a single goal.

The team news

Straus will again be without Georgia Stanway (knee ligament) for the trip to Jena. Lena Oberdorf and Katharina Naschenweng are back in training but not yet available to feature. Momoko Tanikawa is fit again.

‘Go into every game with great respect’

Alexander Straus: “We enjoyed Thursday a lot, but trained on Saturday and Sunday to prepare for the match at Jena. We go into every game with great respect for the opponents. Jena have different circumstances and challenges to contend with than us or the other top teams in the league. They’ve improved during the season and earned the right to stay in the Bundesliga.”
