Latest news from Bayern
While some of the players were still away on international duty at the European Championship, part of the team started their pre-season preparations on 7 July. Together with the players from the second team, they played an internal friendly against Newcastle United. Since the beginning of this week, head coach José Barcala has been able to call on the full squad for the first time. Two weeks before the first competitive match in the Supercup, they face their first joint test against FC Zürich.

The opponents: FC Zürich
This is FC Zürich's second pre-season match and also their dress rehearsal before the start of the season in a week's time. In their first friendly, the Swiss side lost 4-1 to SC Freiburg. Last season, Renato Gligoroski's team finished the regular season in fifth place and reached the final round of the championship. They were beaten in the semi-finals by eventual champions BSC Young Boys.
Team news
Katharina Naschenweng and Lena Oberdorf, two long-term injured players from last season, were finally able to return in the internal friendly against Newcastle United. Head coach José Barcala can now also call on new signings Vanessa Gilles and Stine Ballisager, loan returnee Natalia Padilla Bidas and the European Championship internationals. Barbara Dunst (rehab after cruciate ligament rupture), Pernille Harder (thigh injury) and Giulia Gwinn (medial ligament injury) are not yet available.

Pre-match quotes
José Barcala: "Due to the European Championship, we had to adapt our pre-season somewhat. In the first three weeks, we focused a lot on individual training. The second phase is now focusing more on collective patterns and working as a team. We're only at the beginning of the process, but the team already has a strong foundation."
Linda Dallmann: "Every coach sees things differently and has different approaches and wishes. It's fun that he wants to incorporate the Spanish style of play a little. There's a good chemistry and we're having a lot of fun so far."
