Latest news from Bayern

Klara Bühl was the difference in Bayern’s last game before the international break as they edged Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 in early October to claim top spot in the Bundesliga. While Frankfurt are a familiar rival, Monday’s meeting is against a relatively unknown opponent. Only Bayern’s second team has previously played against Stuttgart in Bundesliga 2.
The Munich Frauen boast an impressive record against promoted teams, going 51 games without defeat (W50, D1). Only Wolfsburg boast a better sequence of results at 65 games. Bayern are also the Bundesliga’s top scorers with 19 goals, have taken the lead in all six fixtures and are yet to drop any points in 2026/27. By contrast, Stuttgart have fallen behind in all six of their matches at this level but have managed to pick up points in four of them. Bayern’s biggest asset in attack has been Bühl with her three goals and four assists. It’s the third season in a row where she’s reached seven goal contributions over the first six matchdays.

Opponent: VfB Stuttgart
Stuttgart have enjoyed a rapid ascent since they began playing three years ago, securing promotion every season by winning the fourth-tier Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 2023/24, the third-tier Regionalliga South in 2024/25 and then claiming the Bundesliga 2 crown last term to reach the top level of women’s football in Germany for the first time.
And they have enjoyed a decent start to life in the Bundesliga with eight points from six games, sitting in eighth place over the international break. However, their most recent fixture was a heavy 4-0 defeat at home to Union Berlin. They had previously come from 2-0 down to beat Turbine Potsdam in extra-time of the first round of the DFB Cup. Nico Schneck’s side will now face Essen in the last 16 at the end of this month.

Team news
José Barcala has had to prepare to face Stuttgart without Lena Oberdorf (reaction in knee), Jovana Damnjanović (muscular), Vanessa Gilles (muscular) and Giulia Gwinn (knee). Magdalena Eriksson and Kathi Naschenweng are also doubts with knee issues.

Pre-match thoughts
José Barcala: “Stuttgart have started the season well and have different tactical options. They defend compactly in a 5-3-2 but can flexibly change to a 4-4-2 and then press the opposition early. The team plays into the gaps well. Their clear structure with two strikers makes it tough for every team to defend. Stuttgart are a very exciting and good team with a mix of experienced and young players. We want our best performance on Monday and to keep all three points in Munich.”
