On the occasion of the anniversaries of FC Bayern's first DFB Cup triumph in 1957 and first European Cup triumph in 1967, club legends visited the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt before the home match against Hamburger SV. The reunion was staged at the club museum and on the Allianz Arena pitch shortly before kick-off, and the atmosphere during the triumphs could be relived.
"Your victories have laid the foundations for our club's success - we haven't forgotten that," said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. In the presence of president Uli Hoeneß, the FC Bayern München AG chairman praised the guests who visited the Allianz Arena to mark the occasion. Six players from the 1957 team and 16 players, officials and descendants of the 1967 team had come to remember the two triumphs together.
Unforgettable moments
About 50 years after the DFB Cup triumph around the 1957/58 turn of the year, the legends remembered the memorable final together. FC Bayern beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-0 on a frozen pitch.
Among others, former Hungary goalkeeper Arpad Fazekas, Wiggerl Landerer and Kurt Sommerlatt remembered the 1957 final, when Germany coach Sepp Herberger and 44,000 spectators saw an outstanding Bayern performance.
The pitch was slippery and covered with snow on 29 December, but Willibald Hahn's men stepped up their game. Rudi Jobst scored the match-winner after 77 minutes, handing the club the first big title since the 1932 championship title. It was a very special day for Kurt Sommerlatt as the former Karlsruhe player won the DFB Cup for the third time in a row: a record to this day.
Rummenigge: Foundation for our international recognition
The match in Nürnberg ten years later was tighter. The 70,000 crowd saw Franz Bulle Roth score the match-winner against Glasgow Rangers in extra time. Everybody remembered the moment when Roth - who, needless to say, was present at the Erlebniswelt - was almost knocked over by his opponents but still found the net. After the triumph the team headed to the Munich Town Hall, touring through the city centre in convertibles, accompanied by cheering fans.
"The first international title was incredibly important for our global recognition, and it laid the foundation for our work today," said Hoeneß. Among others, Dieter Brenninger, Peter Kupferschmidt, Werner Olk, Hans-Georg Katsche Schwarzenbeck dnd Franz Bulle Roth were present. The officials were proud that former managing director Walter Fembeck, former treasurer and president Willi O. Hoffmann and his successor Dr Fritz Scherer had come. Joined by Markus Neudecker, grandson to former president Wilhelm Neudecker, and Zlatan Cajkovski, son to then coach Zlatko Cajkovski, they shared more anecdotes over a dinner.
