Hans Georg “Katsche” Schwarzenbeck had an unforgettable career with FC Bayern, winning the Bundesliga five times, the DFB Cup and European Cup three times each, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the Intercontinental Cup once apiece. To mark the club legend’s 70th birthday, the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt is paying tribute with a small exhibition: DANKE KATSCHE! - for the silverware, almost 60 years of loyalty to the club, and the goal that effectively paved the way for the club to become one of the most successful and wealthy in the world.
The exhibition runs until 27 May 2018. It examines the rock-solid defender’s greatest triumphs, and features pictures, anecdotes and quotations from the World Cup winner’s career. The exhibits include the postcard sent to the thirteen-year-old Hans Georg by express mail, inviting him to play his first match for FC Bayern. A major topic is the goalseconds from the end of extra-time in the 1974 European Cup final against Atletico Madrid that earned a replay two days later and a comfortable 4-0 win.
German speakers even have the opportunity to spend time with Schwarzenbeck in person, as he talks about his experience and passes on his knowledge at the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt on a regular basis. "Meet the Legend" is the name of the special tour with the 70-year-old, who recounts stories about the club to visitors.
