The big stage at FC Bayern is open to art talents too from now on. Photomontages, oil paintings, photographies and room installations: the artworks could hardly be more different, but they all fascinated the visitors to the vernissage NOW AND THEN. A different perspective in their own way. FC Bayern München AG board director Andreas Jung and Prof Dieter Rehm, president of the Academy of Fine Arts, agreed with the numerous visitors from the art scene: the exhibition of the academy students' artworks at the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt is a creative and modern complement to the special exhibition Between the Studio and the Pitch.
"The ties between art and football are especially clear today," said Andreas Jung, pointing out the history of what is Germany's biggest football club today: "FC Bayern was founded as an artists' club. We're proud to revive this connection again." Dieter Rehm too was enthused: "Two Munich institutions like FC Bayern and the Academy of Fine Arts are predestined to cooperate."
Select artworks of the Academy class of Matthias Wähner, which negotiate the big world of football from different perspectives, will be exhibited until 20 January 2020. They are a perfect complement to the special exhibition focused on FC Bayern's history as an "artists' club." The artworks by Annalena Rebele ("Perspektien"/photomontage), Theresa Octavia ("GENIUS LOCI"/oil painting), Leonhard Huber ("Wechselstube"/small-size photographies) and Jacob Weiß ("Golden TV"/installation) will intrigue both people interested in arts and curious visitors to the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt.
Extension of the special exhibition until 31 March 2020
The special ties between FC Bayern and the Academy, two Munich institutions, have existed since the club's founding years. The exhibition in the context of the special exhibition forges multiple links: between art and football as well as between the past and present of Germany's most successful football club and its home in Munich. 119 years ago many painters, sculptors and photographers from the then world-famous Schwabing art scene were among the 17 founding members. Research for the special exhibition Between the Studio and the Pitch revealed how strongly art has shaped FC Bayern. After the cooperation ends in January, the big special exhibition runs until 31 March 2020.
