Mala Grohs und Glódís Viggósdóttir deliver the Meisterschale

The FC Bayern Museum has gained one more attraction: a good two months after FC Bayern Women celebrated their sixth Bundesliga title on the balcony of the Munich Town Hall, captain Glódís Viggósdóttir and goalkeeper Mala Grohs delivered the Meisterschale to the FC Bayern Museum. Under the eager gaze of lots of visitors, the pair placed the trophy in the display case that had been specially designed for it.

The new Meisterschale is indeed the well-deserved reward for a season that the players and all fans will remember fondly in the future. Coach Alexander Straus' team picked up 60 out of a possible 66 points last season, wered unbeaten for the entire campaign and won every game in the Rückrunde. It was a season of superlatives in which FC Bayern Women even surpassed the already impressive results of the previous campaign.

19 wins in 22 games – a season for the ages

"Defending the title last season was the next important step for our team," reflected Viggósdóttir as she delivered the Meisterschale to the FC Bayern Museum. "But this journey is far from over. We're looking forward to going for the next titles in the coming season." And the captain hopes that she will then be able to play such a formative role again as she did for the 2024 campaign, as the centre-back started all 22 Bundesliga matches last season and played the full 90 minutes in all but one game.

Grohs also played a key role in FC Bayern Women's impressively consistent defensive performance. In 21 games this season, the keeper kept a total of 14 clean sheets and with 82.9 per cent of shots saved, the 23-year-old was easily number one in the league. An incentive to lay the foundations for further success in the coming season: "It's a very special honour to add a trophy to the FC Bayern Museum's collection," said the Münster native. "And our big goal is to be able to contribute to this again next year."

Mission to defend the title starts in Potsdam

The team's preparations are already in full swing to make this wish a reality. Following the return of the Olympic Games participants from the Bayern squad and a final friendly against Juventus (20 August), the Supercup final on 25 August against cup winners VfL Wolfsburg will be the first highlight. The Bundesliga season then starts for the defending champions on 30 August at newly promoted 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam.
