The FC Bayern Museum has been enriched by a historical treasure. Just in time for the 125th anniversary of the club's founding, the Bayern jersey from the early days was presented in the Museum’s exhibition. It is the oldest football shirt in Germany. Members’ magazine ‘51’ had already reported extensively on the historic find. Now every fan and interested party can take a look at the outstanding exhibit in person. The shirt, which is in plain white and in excellent condition, was worn by Albert Zoepffel, one of Bayern’s 17 founding members, who played as a left-back in the first team in 1900 and was also a kitman.
An inheritance with a big surprise
In preparation for the 125th anniversary, the FC Bayern Museum contacted the descendants of the founding members, including Anne Gößwein, Zoepffel’s granddaughter. Gößwein kindly made her grandfather's estate available to the FC Bayern Museum. In addition to many personal items, it contained a white shirt which, on closer inspection, turned out to be a football shirt from around 1900. In addition to a number 2 sewn into the collar, the length of the shirt and the design of the sleeves and the back, which ensured particular freedom of movement and durability, also point in favour of this.

Zoepffel's jersey now has its own display case and a place of honour in the permanent exhibition. On the occasion of the anniversary celebrations, Gößwein visited the FC Bayern Museum and was delighted that the memory of her grandfather has now been given such a special setting.
