Bayern Basketball have added one of Denmark’s brightest prospects: Tobias Jensen, a 22-year-old national team guard and last season’s EuroCup “Rising Star” (11.0 points, 4.7 assists per game), joins Munich on a long-term deal. The combo guard arrives from Ulm after his development years there and already 110 BBL appearances, signing with the German EuroLeague club until 2030. Having moved to Ulm at the age of 15, Jensen qualifies as a “homegrown” player under Bundesliga regulations.
In Munich, Jensen will be reunited with several familiar faces from his Ulm days: new head coach Anton Gavel (2022–2024 in Ulm), new Bayern sporting director Thorsten Leibenath and FCBB shooting guard Justinian Jessup (Ulm 3/2024–2025) – even though, as he points out, none of the three were informed in advance of this early-spring transfer.
Multiple debuts under Gavel
“But knowing them already will definitely make things easier, even if I’m fully aware that the EuroLeague will be a whole new level for me,” says the 1.98m playmaker. “I played my first ProB game with Anton in Ulm, my first BBL game with him and also my first EuroCup game. I know his style – high tempo and tough defense.” And about himself, Jensen adds: “I think I’m a very good defender and quite big for my position. Offensively, I want to help the team and can be a good catch-and-shoot option. I’m really excited about this next step in my career.”
FCBB managing director Adrian Sarmiento adds: “Tobias is a highly gifted guard who will bring fresh energy to our team with his youthful drive and his versatility as a hard-working, defensive-minded guard. We’re very happy he has chosen to continue his steady, promising development with us on a long-term basis.”
Hard worker and defensive presence
Jensen, the son of former Danish international Jens Jensen, is coming off a season in which he firmly established himself as a key contributor. He started all 18 EuroCup games for Ulm, averaging 29 minutes with a three-point percentage just under 40 percent, while also grabbing 3.4 rebounds per game. In the easyCredit BBL, he averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds (35% from three).
Jensen came through the youth ranks of the Bakken Bears in his hometown of Aarhus before moving to Ulm’s youth program at the end of 2020. In January 2021, then-ProB head coach Gavel gave him his debut in Ulm’s second team; in November of the following year, he made his first appearance in the Bundesliga. During Ulm’s 2023 championship season, the teenager made three brief appearances.
The following year, Jensen was already part of the regular rotation in the second-highest European competition. Most recently, in his third EuroCup campaign in 2025/2026, he scored in double figures in 13 games, posting an average PIR of 11.6 over the season.
Jensen also made his debut for the Danish national team at 18. In 16 World Cup and EuroBasket qualifying games so far, he has averaged 9.7 points per contest.
