Bayern win Krombacher Challenge

FC Bayern Basketball have won the 2014 Krombacher Challenge, and with it the first trophy of the new season. Bayern overcame BG Göttingen 99:72 in the semi-final before beating last year's winners, Phoenix Hagen, 108:80 in the final in front of sixteen hundred spectators. On Friday, Bayern won their first test match 97:60 against RheinStars Köln to make it three wins from their first three pre-season test matches.

Although it was just a pre-season tournament, The Krombacher Challenge underlined the defending champions' progress as they prepare to defend their title in the coming league season. "The Krombacher Challenge came at a good time for us. Through these games we got to know our players better. I'm satisfied," said head coach Svetislav Pesic.

Another pre-season tournament awaits FC Bayern in the coming weekend. This time over in Mulhouse, France where Bayern will face a more international opponent. On Friday Pesic's team will take on former French champions, Strasbourg IG Basket. On Saturday Bayern face Serbian cup winners, Red Star Belgrad, and finish against Greek champions Panathinaikos on Sunday.
