When 26 FC Bayern players set off for the winter training camp in Doha on Saturday morning to collectively prepare for the second half of the season at the Aspire Academy, Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman, Javi Martínez and Niklas Süle will be staying in Munich to continue their rehabilitation under optimal conditions at the performance centre on Säbener Straße.
While Süle and Martinez will kick-off their programme tomorrow, Lewandowski will not start his rehab training until 7 January. Coach Hansi Flick, together with chief medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt had promised the striker this in order to give him enough time off after his groin operation on 21 December.
Now Flick and his staff have decided, in consultation with the medical unit, that Coman should also stay in Munich, as the conditions at the performance centre on Säbener Straße are ideal for the striker. A team of rehab coaches and physiotherapists will also be staying in Munich to provide the quartet with perfect conditions with respect to both medical care and the training environment.
Following his torn cruciate ligament, Niklas Süle is currently undertaking rehab training
All four players are recovering very well so far and are on track concerning their respective comeback schedules. Coman was out recently due to a tear in his left knee capsule (caused on 11 December in the Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur). Lewandowski had undergone a long-planned groin operation after the last competitive Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg. Martínez suffered a thigh muscle injury against the Wolves. And Süle is in rehab training after a torn cruciate ligament.
Lucas Hernández, who is undertaking advanced training following an ankle injury, will travel to Doha as he is already penned-in to attend parts of the team training.
