What a wonder goal, and of course against FC Schalke. Leon Goretzka scored his first Bundesliga goal this term in FC Bayern's 5-0 victory over the Royal Blues. Shortly after half-time the 24-year-old scored Bayern's third goal against the club where he played from 2013 to 2018. And it was a spectacular goal.
He saw an effort blocked following a corner, but the midfielder stayed focused and unleashed a sideways scissor-kick that left netminder Markus Schubert powerless. "The goal was special of course. It's no secret that I had five very nice years at Schalke and that I felt very much at home there. To be honest, I didn't quite know what to do with the ball – and when in doubt, just put it in," the scorer said after the final whistle.
Goretzka also set up Thomas Müller's historic goal 👇
Goretzka was one of the most industrious Bayern pros on Saturday. The Germany international constantly created passing lines, took the second-most shots on goal (five; Robert Lewandowski took eight) and set up Thomas Müller's goal to double Bayern's lead. Goretzka had set up another goal against Hertha Berlin last weekend. He was sidelined with injury for the most part of the first half of the season, but he is fully fit again – just in time for the fight for the championship title.
