Increase font size Text size

Thomas Müller scored twice, Joshua Kimmich provided three assists and in the end FC Bayern - thanks to Robert Lewandowski and David Alaba who also scored - beat Schalke 4-0. The lead at the top of the table thus grew to seven points and the defending champions took a big step towards their ninth championship in a row. Read about the other important facts from the away win in Gelsenkirchen, including records broken by Manuel Neuer and Lewandowski, right here.

Neuer beats Kahn's best

As of Sunday evening, Manuel Neuer is now the all-time record holder for the most clean sheets in the Bundesliga! The 34-year-old FCB captain equalled former Bayern goalkeeper Oliver Kahn's record of 196 games without conceding with a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against FC Augbsurg in midweek, and picked up his 197th clean sheet with a solid performance against his former team, Schalke 04. "I won't let myself be done down here. We're on an equal footing. Let's see how he reacts. But I think he's happy for all of us," Neuer said, smiling after the match when asked if he was expecting trouble with former world-class goalkeeper Kahn, now an FCB board member.

Lewandowski's hunt for records continues

This man is unstoppable! With his goal to make it 2-0, Lewandowski took his tally for the current season to 23 goals, the most of any player after 18 Bundesliga matchdays. The Polish top goalscorer also broke two other records on Sunday: Lewandowski became the first player in Bundesliga history to score in eight away games in a row. He also scored in his 11th consecutive Bundesliga match against Schalke - no other player in Germany's top flight has scored in as many consecutive matches against one opponent.

Bayern's goal machine continues to run at full pelt

FC Bayern have already scored a whopping 53 goals in the current season. After 18 matchdays, this is a Bundesliga record. Only Borussia Dortmund (1963/64) and Werder Bremen (1985/86) have scored as many after 18 games.

Kimmich best provider together with Müller

Joshua Kimmich once again shone as a goal creator on Sunday afternoon. The Bayern midfield engine set up three goals. With nine assists, Kimmich is now the best provider in the league together with Thomas Müller and has already surpassed his previous year's mark of seven assists.

Ton up for Goretzka

In addition to the away win, Leon Goretzka also celebrated an anniversary on Sunday. The midfielder played his 100th competitive game for Bayern, his century coming up against his former club.

Good omens en route to a ninth title in a row

Thanks to the win at Schalke, Bayern have extended their lead over second-placed Leipzig to seven points. The Munich team has never squandered such a large lead when top in the second half of the season, since the introduction of the three-points-for-a-win rule.

Successful start to the second half of the season

With the success at Schalke, Bayern have now recorded a victory at the start of the second half of the season for the sixth year in a row. FCB had never managed that in the Bundesliga before.

Müller surpasses previous year's total

After his brace against Schalke, Müller now has nine goals for the season. He has already surpassed his tally from the previous season (8 goals).
