5 facts on the game at Union Berlin you need to know

Increase font size Text size

FC Bayern travel to 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday (9:30 AM EST) for a Bundesliga Matchday 10 clash. The Irons have made a terrific start to the season and are currently sitting in an impressive in fifth place, so they'll be full of confidence ahead of the visit from the league leaders from Munich. We've pooled together the most important facts and stats for the away game - and they give us hope that FCB will be able to erase a blemish from their record against the Berliners. But read on for yourself!

1. Spectacular goal fest

FC Bayern have a tally of 33 goals from the first nine games of this Bundesliga season - more than any team has ever scored at this stage. The 13 goals in the first four away games of the campaign are also a new club record for the league leaders.

The best striker in the Bundesliga, Robert Lewandowski (10 goals this season), will lead the record-breaking FCB attack in Berlin.

2. Nine different goalscorers

In addition to top scorer Robert Lewandowski (ten goals), eight other players have netted for FCB so far in the current campaign. Only their most recent Bundesliga opponents, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, have had more scorers this season (12).

3. Home might vs. away specialists

On Saturday, the team with the best away record in the league, FC Bayern (five games unbeaten, the same as SC Freiburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen), will face the team with the best unbeaten record at home, Union Berlin (21 games).

FCB won their last away match in the Bundesliga 5-1 thanks to an outstanding performance in Leverkusen.

4. Watch out, the Bavarians are coming

The Reds were the only team in the league to win all of their last three Bundesliga games away from home, with Lewandowski & Co. always scoring at least three goals. The last time the German record champions achieved this was at the turn of the year in the 2019/2020 season - in the end they achieved five consecutive away wins with at least three goals scored.

5. Room for improvement in head to head clashes

Leroy Sané and his teammates have been frustrated by the Irons in the past.

Union Berlin are the only side the men from Munich failed to beat last season (two draws). FCB have a lower goal average (1.5) against the Irons than against any other team in Bundesliga history. On the other hand, Union have not won any of their four BL games against Bayern so far (two draws, two defeats).

FC Bayern will be without Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for the foreseeable future:
