The coach finished his video session at 2:30 a.m. as the team captain watched at least the first half again at night. Little sleep was found in the camp of the Bayern basketball players after the rather unexpected 95-85 defeat in game one of the Final10 against Ulm. "I slept restlessly", Danilo Barthel reported on Sunday morning, before the schedule continued after brunch in the Leonardo Royal Hotel: team meeting, training at noon in the Campushalle, preparation for the next game - which is coming up quite quickly - on Monday (8.6.) at 16:30 against Crailsheim. Captain Barthel says: "Sometimes you learn more from losses, but we have to learn fast now."
Weak one-on-one defense, especially against the Ulm guards Harvey (21) and Kleipeisz (17). The poor outing included eleven offensive rebounds for the opponent bad shooting from inside the arc and finally 15 turnovers. In one game Bayern ceased to be the favorites. They were "too soft", criticised coach Oliver Kostic, who is now approacing it like Barthel: "We have to keep cool heads now."
Reunion with Marvin Ogunsipe
One loss is nothing more than a mishap at the final tournament of the BBL in the Audi Dome, which is broadcast in 14 countries and is highly regarded worldwide. But against Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, Bayern will need a win and a performance boost on Monday to get into the three-week tournament. "We now have to find the energy from within ourselves that is necessary in this familiar and now all the more unusual ambience of the Audi Dome without our fans," says Barthel.
While the Bavarians have to do without their two top scorers Greg Monroe and Nihad Djedovic, the Merlins Jan Span, Quincy Ford and Aaron Jones are also missing. The former national team player, David Brembly (MBC) - and Marvin Ogunsipe - who was originally loaned to Hamburg - have been re-enlisted.
Against Goettingen (89-78), the surprise third-place team of the abandoned regular season Crailsheim struggled throughout the game and only made it close in the end, similar to the Bayern versus Ulm. Bayern will have to watch out for strong guards, including the fifth best BBL scorer of the regular season, Javontae Hawkins (16.4 ppg). In the Merlins squad is another former U19 champion from Munich - from their own youth -Dejan Kovacevic, who scored twelve points against the BG.
