This is a setback: The Bayern basketball team missed the desired tenth season victory against Asvel Villeurbanne, as the French ruthlessly punished the many Munich mistakes in the 64:76 (29:40) defeat in front of 6,000 spectators. Even 21 points from top scorer Edwards did not mobilize the offense often enough.
On Sunday, Crailsheim comes to the BMW Park in the BBL (15:30), and on Tuesday, the Spanish playoff candidate Baskonia is in the EuroLeague (20:00).
FC Bayern Basketball - Asvel Villeurbanne 64:76 (29:40)

Bonga and Weiler-Babb were able to participate again, but Ibaka had to watch due to minor knee complaints. Against an opponent who had nothing to lose and played with the same determination, Bayern set the pace early on. However, after a 17:12 lead, the offensive game lost its precision, and Asvel took advantage, leading 28:22 (14th minute).
29:47 Deficit after halftime
Adding to the challenges, Booker also got injured before halftime, and without Ibaka, problems against the 7'3" center Fall grew - 27:38 (19th minute). The best rebounding team in the premier league was trailing 11:21 in this category at halftime, with only 2/6 free throws indicating a certain level of uncertainty.
The task became even more complicated with an overarching 17:2 run by Asvel. Shortly after the restart, a 29:47 deficit loomed in front of the Munich team. While the athletic guest maintained their rhythm, the Munich offense rarely found cohesion.
Second Half without Booker
Is it over? The last ten minutes started at 50:59, and Villeurbanne was back in range. FCBB fought, struggling almost more with themselves. Francisco hit from downtown, and Edwards made it 62:66 (36th minute). However, after that, very little went right.
Quotes
Pablo Laso: "I think we had the worst situation and the worst performance at the worst moment. Several guys couldn't play - Serge, Niklas, Dino, and then Devin during the game - so we were a bit short in the inside rotation. That's not an excuse, but we were outplayed there. We couldn't match it, and we were never in rhythm from the beginning. Respect to Asvel for how they played, but also respect to my players for trying to fight back until the end. I'm not happy with our performance; we didn't play well. Still, we had open shots to win in the end. (...) We weren't ready from the start. Congratulations to Asvel; they controlled the game. (…) We need to check on Booker tomorrow. We hope, and I think, it's nothing serious. The best thing in this bad moment is that it doesn't look so bad. (...) Serge had knee problems; he didn't train for two days. It was too risky to let him play. (...) I think these disadvantages hurt us a lot on the rebound because we had to go many minutes with a smaller team. Rebounding is crucial for us because it gives us control over the rhythm."
Andreas Obst: "We cannot be satisfied at all with this performance. We lacked energy from the beginning. We didn't play as a team, tried too hard to force things, and our minds weren't in the game. It's not dignified to perform like this today. There was a lack of willingness and the right attitude. We can't go into a game thinking, 'We're playing against Asvel, the last in the EuroLeague' - because it's still the EuroLeague, and it means something. All teams can play. We need to approach it with a certain mindset and fighting spirit; talent alone is not enough. We have to fight as a team and bring the energy onto the court. That's what we need, there's no other way. We all have to give 100 percent."
Elias Harris: "We have to keep going. Giving up is not an option. No matter who we face, we have to try to win games, even if it's extremely difficult. That's our duty."
