Comeback without yield: Despite a strong comeback after the break and taking the lead, FC Bayern Basketball couldn't defeat the playoff contender Maccabi Tel Aviv. The weakened cup winner lost only 46 hours after the game in Valencia 74:89 (35:48) and missed the 14th season win after an erroneous final quarter. Bolmaro collected 21 points in front of 6,300 spectators.
The injury list with Obst (thigh) and Brankovic was expectedly extended to include Booker (both ankles) after his mishap in Valencia. Thus, Giffey moved into the starting lineup, as did Weiler-Babb - 6:0, no bad start this time. Maccabi had difficult shots to take, but then benefited from turnovers (12:14/8.).

No Obst and two centers
Both teams showed signs of the double week. Maccabi's deep roster compensated much better in the second quarter and pulled away with a 13-0 run to lead 42-26 (16th). At halftime, the guests had made six three-pointers out of ten attempts, while Bayern made four out of 15 shots.
Ibaka the anchor
Ibaka and Bolmaro on offense were exerting themselves, but support was still lacking. Five quick points from Edwards narrowed the gap to 47-53 (24th). Was the team now getting into gear?
67-63 - 69-80
In any case, they fought bravely, even against the foul count and the lack of physicality inside without two injured centers. Edwards' energetic performance and Bonga actually turned the game around: 67-63 (32nd)!
However, Tel Aviv kept their composure, effectively disrupting with full-court defense and generating crucial turnovers: A 2-17 run to 69-80 (37th) was one setback too many - only five more points were added in the last eight minutes, along with five turnovers.
Quotes:
Pablo Laso, Head Coach of FC Bayern Basketball: "Maccabi played very consistently for over 40 minutes, that was the difference. We started well, but then let them take over the rhythm of the game. Our reaction in the third quarter was good, we just did the right things. However, we fell back again after they changed their defense. We made many mistakes and turnovers, and Maccabi took advantage of them. (...) I have no explanation for this phase in the last quarter. (...)
I can't say anything about the season so far, there are still three games in the EuroLeague and many in the BBL with the playoffs. We have to keep working and be ready for the next game. A game like this doesn't say anything about the season. We won the cup and had stable weeks there. Now apparently, I demand things that we can't implement right now, things I thought we could. (...) We need to recover and train now. (...)
We will check Devin and Danko day by day now, both of them twisted their ankles. Danko is much better now and hopefully, it won't be as long for Devin as it was before the cup. We can't rush Andi, we don't want to risk a longer absence."
Elias Harris: "It's going to be extremely difficult now, of course, we have ourselves to blame for that. We had everything under control, both in Valencia and today, and we just couldn't bring it onto the court. That's naturally very bitter. We slept through large parts of the first half and then fought our way back, which cost a lot of energy. We also managed to turn the game around and there was positive energy. Then that thread broke again and we fell behind again. Then it goes quickly against a good team like Tel Aviv, that you end up losing so heavily in the end. (...)
We didn't stick to the game plan in the first half, we adjusted it in the second half and then it was good suddenly. Then we had a flow, the offense was running, everything was as it should be in defense. But that should work for 40 minutes and not just for short stretches."
