Bayern with 300 fans in the Saebener Hall

In the end, Berni entertained the fans with his performance on a skateboard and the team spent a good itme with an extensive autograph session on Saturday afternoon. Almost 300 fans experienced a fun opening event for season ticket holders, despite the 86-75 loss of the Munich team against the Niners Chemnitz.

The test took place in the venerable hall on Saebener Street, where Bayern Basketball had played for decades before their BBL return, including their first European Cup appearance in the late 1960s. The FCBB played for the first time in its new jerseys including the lettering of the new main sponsor Siegmund. Top scorers were center Augustine Rubit with 23 points, ahead of Corey Walden (13), Cassius Winston (10), Elias Harris (8), Paul Zipser and Othello Hunter (6 each).

Harris back with the Team

The guest from Chemnitz, in view of its first competitive game in the European Cup qualifiers (FIBA Champions League) in just over a week, was recognizably a bit further along in its preparation, and after Munich had taken a 36-25 lead (14th), the visitors increased their energy level, especially on defense. Munich fought their way back to 75-69 with five minutes to go, but the Niners with FCBB loanee Nelson Weidemann did not allow a turnaround.

Bayern was naturally missing the four European Championship participants as well as Isaac Bonga (rehabilitation training), while Harris played his first minutes again after overcoming some muscle problems. The Bavarians will be testing against hosts Valencia and Andorra in Spain next weekend. Their season begins on October 1 with the BBL home game in the Audi Dome against Ulm.

FCBB preseason:

17./18. September: u.a. Valencia Basket – FCBB (in Llíria/ESP)
24./25. September: Tournament in Teramo/ITA
