Another talent from FC Bayern Basketball is getting a chance to prove himself in the Bundesliga: The double winner is loaning youngster Martin Kalu to Löwen Braunschweig for initially one season, where the 19-year-old guard will have the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities at BBL level. Kalu's contract with FC Bayern Basketball is valid until summer 2027.
Over the past three years, Kalu has been part of FCBB's youth program. Alongside Ivan Kharchenkov, he was the first athlete from the basketball department to secure a spot at the FC Bayern Campus of the record champions in 2021. In the U19 team of Munich, which recently made it to the Top4 for the German Championship again, and also in the young second team, Kalu has developed into a key player. Thanks to his 19.2 points per game, FCBB II achieved the ProB playoffs as the youngest team.
At just 17 years old, Kalu made his debut in the easyCredit BBL for Bayern in October 2022, and last season he made six appearances for the double winner.
"We are delighted that another Bayern talent like Martin is making his way into the BBL. We believe he will earn valuable playing time there and continue to develop before returning to us," said Emir Mutapcic, Sporting Director of FCBB's youth department.
