What a comeback, what a sensationial win: The Bayern basketball team outplayed EuroLeague champion Efes Istanbul on Friday night and won 89-81 after a fabulous final quarter. In front of 16,00 fans in the sold-out Erdem Hall, the team of head coach Andrea Trinchieri fell behind16 points in the third quarter - but the last quarter then went 30-17 to the Munich team and was enough for the win. Their comeback was initiated by Jaramaz (10 points), veteran Hunter (18), Rubit, Winston (14 each) and Giffey (11) who were Bayern's top scorers.
For the FCBB, it was the eighth win of the season. The focus is now on the BBL rivalry game on Sunday in Bamberg (18:00./MagentaSport), where the FCBB also want to get back on the road to success after two recent losses.
The guests led in Istanbul 24-19 (9th) and played well but the three-point shooting left much to be desired - only three of 15 - and this prevented a better starting position for the second half. The start of the second half was a complete failure (57-41/26th), but the FCBB did not let the game end there and came back to 64-61 and then the lead at 77-74 (36th). Fast play, rebounds and three-pointers by Giffey, Hunter and Rubit unnerved the dismayed star ensemble around Micic, Larkin & Co.
