One game from glory - Bayern fired up for next title showdown

Just one more step! FC Bayern are setting their sights on making history on Thursday, and in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup (kick-off 19:00 CET) against the winners of the CONCACAF Champions League Tigres UANL, the men from Munich have the chance to win their sixth title within a year! Only Barcelona (2009) have managed that feat to date. Check out our preview for everything you need to know about the final against Tigres.

The situation for FC Bayern

"When you're so close to winning a title, you have to give everything to make it happen," said Robert Lewandowski ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup final. The top scorer had fired Bayern into the final with a brace in the semi-final against Al Ahly (2-0) on Monday. At the other end, FCB had again kept a clean sheet - for the fourth time in their last five competitive matches. "Everyone has been working on it. We've improved that bit by bit. I hope that this positive trend will continue," said goalkeeper Manuel Neuer at the press conference on Wednesday.

Who will come out on top in the final? We compare Bayern's Lewandowski with Tigres' Gignac:

The opponents: Tigres UANL

UANL Tigres are somewhat surprisingly in the final and are the first team from the North and Central American Football Federation to reach the final of the Club World Cup. The Mexicans knocked out Ulsan Hyundai (2-1) in the quarter-finals before defeating SE Palmeiras (1-0) in the semis. "I saw them in the semi-finals and I was very impressed. They have a very intense game, tremendous quality on the wings and players in the centre who score the goals," said Bayern head coach Hansi Flick. Top striker André-Pierre Gignac has scored all three goals so far. "He also benefits from having strong wingers. We have to keep him out of the box and prevent Tigres from getting chances," Neuer added.

In December, Tigres UANL won the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time after losing out in three finals (2016, 2017, 2019). Learn more about Bayern's cup final opponents here:

Team news for FC Bayern vs. Tigres UANL

Coach Hansi Flick explained at the press conference that Jérôme Boateng would be leaving before the final due to personal reasons.

What the coaches say

Hansi Flick: "Tigres have great pace, are very determined in their build-up play, and will demand absolutely everything from us. In every game, and especially in a final, it's important that we have with the right attitude from the word go. We'll have to be wide awake and take our chances better this time."

Ricardo Ferretti (Tigres UANL coach): "We've analysed Bayern's abilities and have watched them play many times. For us, it's about creating danger on the counter. We're going into the game with the necessary respect, but are certainly not afraid. We're confident that we can win the trophy."
