The ink is dry: Thomas Müller has extended his contract with FC Bayern until the summer of 2023, continuing his success story with the German record champions. To celebrate this, fcbayern.com has picked out 7 impressive facts and figures from the attacker's career at the club:
1. Already a Bayern legend
The attacker has played 521 matches for FC Bayern and is now ranked 7th in terms of number of appearances for players in a Bayern shirt. Franz Beckenbauer is one place ahead of him (6th), and is only 10 games ahead of Müller on 531. With his 195 competitive goals for FCB, the 2014 world champion is fourth top goalscorer for the team since the Bundesliga began - behind Gerd Müller (506), Robert Lewandowski (230) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (217).
2. Müller's goal involvement every 112 minutes
In more than 11 years with FC Bayern, the attacking all-rounder has been directly involved in 341 competitive goals (195 goals, 146 assists) - meaning that Müller has played a part in a Bayern goal every 112 minutes.
3. FCB's youngest Champions League brace scorer and youngest hat-trick hero
On September 15, 2009, Müller scored his first brace in the Champions League away at Maccabi Haifa's in a 3-0 win, making him FCB's youngest scorer of a brace in Europe's premier competition. On 1 May 2010, the Bavarian then scored all three goals in a 3-1 win over VfL Bochum, making him the youngest Bayern player to score a hat-trick for the senior team. Aged 20 years and 230 days at the time, he remains FC Bayern's youngest hat-trick hero in Bundesliga history.
4. Most assists this season
Assist record: Müller set a new personal best with 16 assists so far in this Bundesliga season and is only the second player after Kevin De Bruyne (in the 2014/15 season for Wolfsburg) to pick up 16 assists from 25 Bundesliga games since detailed data collection began. He is also the only player (since records began) to have over 100 assists to his name.
5. German record goalscorer in the Champions League
With 44 goals in the Champions League, Müller is the most successful German goal scorer in the top ranking European club competition. He is also only one game away from catching up with German record appearance maker Philipp Lahm, who made 112 appearances in the UCL.
The beginning of March marked the eleventh anniversary of Thomas Müller's debut in the Champions League - and since then he has broken several records:
6. Flick and Müller – it clicks
Alongside Alphonso Davies and Manuel Neuer, Bayern's number 25 is the only player to feature in all 21 competitive matches under boss Hansi Flick. During this time he's been directly involved in 21 goals (eight goals, 13 assists); only Robert Lewandowski has been involved in more goals under the current Bayern head coach (24).
7. On the way to record champions
In eleven years, winning machine Müller has lifted the league title trophy eight times for FC Bayern. Only his former team-mate Franck Ribéry (nine) has won more German championships - and there are still a few titles to be won before 2023.
"He has been shaping the club for more than ten years with great football and his likeable manner," says board member Oliver Kahn about Thomas Müller - read more quotes from leading personalities about Müller's contract extension here:
