6 facts on the clash at SC Freiburg

It's first against fifth as FC Bayern start the crucial season run-in on Saturday (15:30 CEST). On Bundesliga Matchday 28, coach Julian Nagelsmann's team face a visit to SC Freiburg. It's a clash of the two best back lines in the league this season. Find out here what other facts and figures there are to know before the match.

1. Bayern's impressive record in Freiburg

Of the last 37 Bundesliga games against Freiburg, FC Bayern have lost just one (28 wins, eight draws). However, the last match, on Matchday 33 of last season, was a 2-2 draw.

2. Best defences go head-to-head

The FCB defence led by Lucas Hernández and Benjamin Pavard has conceded the fewest goals this season (28), just ahead of upcoming opponents Freiburg (29).

On Saturday, the two best defensive teams in the Bundesliga will meet - Bayern have conceded just 28 goals, while Freiburg have conceded 29. The nine clean sheets that both teams have kept so far this season are also the most in the league, along with 1. FSV Mainz 05. Freiburg's Mark Flekken (79%) and Manuel Neuer (73%) are the two goalkeepers with the best save percentage.

3. FCB goal machine continues to run at full speed

Bayern racked up league goals 78 to 81 against Union Berlin.

FC Bayern have already scored 81 goals in this Bundesliga season, more than any team before in the league's history after 27 games. Since a 0-0 draw at home against RB Leipzig in February 2020, the men from Munich have scored in every one of their 74 Bundesliga matches, which is also a current record in the top flight.

4. Goal threat from set-pieces?

Both SC Freiburg and FC Bayern have already scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga from set-pieces this season, the highest number in the league. Bayern, along with Mainz, have also conceded the fewest goals after set-pieces (5), Freiburg the third fewest (7).

5. Lewy continuing to chase records

He just can't stop scoring! Robert Lewandowski has already racked up 31 goals this season.

Robert Lewandowski scored his 30th and 31st goals of the season against Union Berlin - the fifth time he's smashed the 30-goal barrier in a Bundesliga campaign. The only other player to have managed that as often was the legendary Gerd Müller. Lewandowski is currently on 17 away goals - a record previously only achieved by Jupp Heynckes (1973/74) and Timo Werner (2019/20). One fact that speaks in favour of him extending this tally on Saturday: Lewy is particularly fond of scoring against Freiburg - he's netted at least once in each of his last six games against the club from the Breisgau region.

6. Freiburg's new stadium sold out for the first time

SC Freiburg have been playing at their new Europa-Park Stadium since October 2021. The arena will be sold out for the first time on Saturday. The 34,700 tickets for the match were snapped up within a few minutes, according to the club.
