Thomas Müller is the 2021/22 FC Bayern Player of the Season

Only one player in Europe’s top leagues managed 22 assists last season: Thomas Müller has proven once again over the last 12 months how important he is for FC Bayern. As well as his countless assists, the longest-serving player in the record champions’ squad impressed again last term as a leader, team player, finisher (13 goals) and talisman.

Müller beats Musiala and Lewandowski

The Bayern supporters can’t get enough of this and chose the 32-year-old as their Player of the Season. With just under 26 percent of the votes, Müller came out on top ahead of Jamal Musiala (19%) and Robert Lewandowski (18%), who has won the award in the last two seasons.

Still in red: Thomas Müller extended his contract until 2024 in May.

The list of records that Müller set during the 2021/22 campaign is long. In May, the Bavarian celebrated his 11th league title, becoming the outright record Bundesliga winner, while the 5-0 win at VfB Stuttgart in December was his 292nd in the German top flight, a record for an outfield player. With 18 assists, Bayern’s number 25 was once again the top provider in the Bundesliga and his 22 assists in all competitions was the most in Europe’s five biggest leagues, ahead of Kylian Mbappé’s 21. And so on and so forth…

There’s no end in sight, though, with Müller having extended his contract at the German record champions until 2024 in May. “The journey we've been on since I joined the FCB academy in 2000 has been a fantastic success story up to now. It gives me immense pleasure to hold up the red colours year after year, on and off the pitch,” said the attacker after signing his new contract, making it clear that Müller will continue to delight the Bayern fans for a while yet!
