It's the first competitive game of the season and the first chance for a trophy on Saturday evening (20:30 CEST) as FC Bayern visit DFB Cup winners RB Leipzig for the 2022 DFL Supercup. The Munich side could make it three titles in a row and further extend their supremacy in the competition. You can find out how often Bayern have won the Supercup and the other records at stake in our facts and figures about the game:
1. Serial winners vs. newcomers
FC Bayern are regular guests in the German Supercup. In the 23rd edition, Bayern are taking part for a 16th time. With a total of nine titles, FCB are by far the most successful club in this competition as well. After winning the DFB Cup - the club's first title in professional football - Leipzig are taking part in the Supercup for the first time.
2. Strong record against Leipzig
Bayern have lost just one of their 14 competitive games against RB, winning eight and drawing five. The Munich side have in fact won the last three in a row. Leipzig's winless streak against FCB (nine games) is longer than against any other club in professional football.
3. Possible record appearance for Müller
With 11 appearances each, Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski are the players who have played in this competition the most times. Müller could become the sole record holder on Saturday. With five goals, the 33-year-old is also the second-highest goalscorer in the history of the competition, with only Lewandowski scoring more (seven).
4. Will there be a third straight win?
FC Bayern have won the Supercup in five of the last six years. The one defeat was a 2-0 home loss against Borussia Dortmund at the start of the 2019/20 season. FCB could win the title for the third time in a row this year. That would equal the record set by Bayern themselves from 2016 to 2018.
5. New signings face competitive debut
With Matthijs de Ligt, Sadio Mané, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui there are four newcomers to the FC Bayern squad who could all make their competitive debuts for the Munich side in the Supercup.
