FC Bayern are going into the future with their goalkeeping team! On Tuesday, Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich extended their contracts with the German record champions until summer 2025, meaning continuity in such an important position and a line-up that's second to none.
Neuer: 'Our relationship is unique'
A special line-up: FC Bayern's goalkeeping team of Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich and Daniel Peretz.
Neuer and Ulreich have been Bayern's goalkeeping duo since 2015, save for a brief interruption in the 2020/21 season. "We get on very well as people, also off the pitch," said Neuer after signing his new contract. "What Ulle has done for the club since 2015, and also how he's supported me, is phenomenal. Our relationship is unique."
Support beyond the pitch
Particularly over recent months, in which Neuer was out with a broken lower leg, the Bayern number one felt the backing of his teammate. "He regularly visited me and asked after my condition. He experienced every stage with me," reveals Neuer in the documentary Battle for Comeback.
Ulreich: 'A good relationship since the first day'
Ulreich also underlined the special connection with his goalkeeping colleague: "Since the first day I've had a good relationship with Manu. It's massively important that we get along well, not just on the pitch. I feel Manu's trust."
In general, they praise the excellent teamwork in the whole goalkeeping department with goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner and Daniel Peretz. "We support each other every day, enjoy training with each other and always try to push ourselves," said Neuer.
Together into the future
The pair have already enjoyed many titles with FC Bayern, and now they're tackling the next big goals together. "I'm pleased that our journey together is continuing until 2025. We have big targets, including the Champions League final in Munich," added Neuer.
