As well as the battle for second place, Saturday's Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt is also about atonement for FC Bayern. The Reds lost 5-1 in the reverse fixture in Hesse, their heaviest defeat under head coach Thomas Tuchel. Now they want to keep the points in Munich. Find out which facts and figures on the match indicate that might happen.
Wins shared recently
Recent meetings between Frankfurt and Bayern have been eventful affairs. In the last 10 encounters in the Bundesliga, the Munich men have won by a margin of four or more goals on four occassions, while the Hessians have done so twice – most recently in the first half of this season. That's one of three wins that SGE have claimed in their last six meetings with FCB (D1 L2). Historically, though, the German record champions have a clear advantage with 57 wins from 105 games in the competition, and just 25 losses (23 draws).
Kane spearheading prolific Bayern attack
Last Saturday's comfortable 5-1 victory at 1. FC Union Berlin took Bayern to 87 goals for the season – the fourth-highest tally after 30 matchdays in Bundesliga history. One man who's clearly played a big part in that is Harry Kane. The England captain netted for the 33rd time in only his 30th game in Germany's top flight in Berlin, surpassing the 60-year-old record set by Uwe Seeler, who 'only' reached 33 goals in his 33rd Bundesliga appearance. If Kane gets on the scoresheet again against Frankfurt, he'll be on the verge of yet another best: with 40 goals in all competitions (from just 41 games!) in his debut season for Bayern, he's just one away from his personal best of 41 goals for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2017/18 campaign.
Müller on verge of milestone
After his brace against Union Berlin, FCB veteran Thomas Müller needs just one more goal to reach 150 in the Bundesliga. Only Gerd Müller (365), Robert Lewandowski (238) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (162) have previously reached this mark for Bayern.
Goretzka with personal record
With a goal and an assist in the thumping win over Union, Leon Goretzka is now on 12 direct goal contributions in this Bundesliga campaign (five goals, seven assists). That equals his personal record from the 2018/19 season, when he was involved in the same number of goals for Bayern. It's not unlikely that he'll be able to set a new personal best on Saturday, as the midfielder has scored in two of his last three Bundesliga home games against Frankfurt.
Birthday boy Tel in top form
Mathys Tel turns 19 on the day of the clash with Eintracht. On current form, he's got a strong case for being able to celebrate his birthday with an appearance against the Eagles. Tel was invovled in two goals in a Bundesliga match for the first time against Union, scoring one and setting up another. With 10 goal contributions (six goals, four assists), he now has the best tally of any player born in 2005 or later in Europe's top five leagues. In addition, the Frenchman has already bettered his goals tally from last season (five). In total, therefore, he's now on 11 Bundesliga goals, something only Florian Wirtz and Youssoufa Moukoko (both 13) have surpassed as an U19 player in the history of the league.
