Reaction to match against Rottach-Egern - Vincent Kompany: 'Important tradition for the club'

In the end, it was very much a one-sided affair. After FC Rottach-Egern, and especially goalkeeper Mario Weiß, impressively kept it 0-0 for 25 minutes and even pulled a goal back at 4-1, FC Bayern increased the scoreline as the match went on, eventually running out 14-1 winners in their first friendly of the new season. It was the unanimous opinion of all involved that it was a successful end to the German record champions' three-day training camp at Lake Tegernsee. Even the hosts were satisfied - despite the heavy defeat.

The reaction to the match at Rottach-Egern

Vincent Kompany: "It's nice to be here with the fans. I know how important this tradition is for the club. We've implemented everything we intended in the last few days - and also got a look at the young players. We're pleased with the game today. The boys fought for every ball and always tried to be positive. We're still missing a number of players. Hopefully we'll get everybody back fit over the coming weeks. It's important that we're fit for the cup match and then the start of the Bundesliga."

Christoph Freund (sporting director): "Serge Gnabry and Aleks Pavlovic didn't play today, we wanted to manage their workload. They did train today. The German internationals will return at the start of next week as well as João Palhinha. Konny Laimer will be back on Friday. More and more players will come back to training now."

Sven Ulreich: "For me personally, it's the most beautiful training camp with the mountains, with the backdrop, with the Lake Tegernsee. All of us are always happy to be here. We have a lot of new faces and can go into the new season with a new playing philosophy to some extent. We have to see how it evolves but I'm feeling positive that it will progress well. Games like this one today are tricky for us as a Bundesliga club. We tried to put things into practice, such as intensive pressing, but obviously it's difficult to get into the game rhythm. It's been an intense day with a good training session this morning."

Josip Stanišić: "It's nice to be back here - Bavaria is my home, as is the club. We found it a bit harder today than last year, but it's good for the fans to have a game like this. We'll have many more intensive sessions when everyone's back. It's been a lot of fun so far, which is the most important thing."

Stefan Schlichtner (chairman, FC Rottach-Egern): "It's always great what goes on here. The stars are in great spirits, they treat us superbly. It's a treat every time. The boys gave a very good account of themselves today. I'm really pleased, all expectations were fulfilled."

Mario Weiß (goalkeeper, FC Rottach-Egern): "Obviously there are a few things that are annoying me, but overall it was awesome today. You don't quite realise it yet but that will definitely come in a few days."

Tobias Schlichtner (goalscorer, FC Rottach-Egern): "It's mad, I can't quite believe it. It's my fourth time playing against Bayern, and to come off with a goal today is unbelievable. That was certainly the greatest moment of my career - I've been a Bayern fan since childhood."
