It was an example of all-round brilliance from Mathys Tel as he controlled a long diagonal ball to take it past a defender and then pick out the far top corner to put Bayern 3-0 up in their friendly against Grasshoppers. No surprise really that fans deemed it worthy of winning Goal of the Month for August.

The young Frenchman took down Joshua Kimmich’s cross-field ball over to the left with his heel to leave his marker standing before bending his shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The majority of Bayern fans were suitably impressed, with 41 percent of votes going to Tel to finish well clear of Michael Olise’s strike in the same game (19%) and João Palhinha’s volley in the earlier friendly against Tirol (17%). It’s Tel’s second Goal of the Month award at Bayern following his September 2023 effort.
