Bayern claimed a commanding and thoroughly deserved 5-0 win away at Bochum in the Bundesliga on Sunday evening. It was therefore little surprise to hear that the coach and his players were all happy after the final whistle. “From my point of view, it was a very good performance. We’re pleased,” said Vincent Kompany. One of the five goalscorers, Jamal Musiala, added: “We can be happy today and take the rhythm into the next games. It’s important we have fun out there.” fcbayern.com has all the post-match reaction.
Reaction to the game at Bochum
Vincent Kompany: “It was a game we took very seriously. We’d lost here twice in the last three years. I found it good that we stayed calm. Bochum were very aggressive, pressed high and had that chance at the start. We stayed calm and serious, from the first minute till the last. It’s a good result for us. We want to keep going just like this in the Bundesliga. Every time Jamal is in the team, we have that something extra. But the others also did very well. Jamal has unique, special qualities. We all see that. But it’s always about the team. From my point of view, it was a very good performance. We’re pleased.”
Jamal Musiala: “We played well. We knew from last year how tough it can be here. Scoring goals is fun for us. Keeping clean sheets is also important. We want to take a step forward in every game so we’re at our best level in the second half of the season. We can be happy today and take the rhythm into the next games. It’s important we have fun out there. We need to work but we also need enjoyment if we want to win. I think headed goals are always cool. I’m really happy with that.”
Konrad Laimer: “We wanted to lay down a marker again. It was a very focused, commanding performance. At the end of the day, we deserved to win by as much as we did and could’ve even got a few goals more. We know it’s always tough away here. We need to play our game for the full 90 minutes, then we’ll win lots of matches and enjoy success. It only works when we all do it together.”
Kingsley Coman: “It was a bit tough at the start, but we stuck at it and gave our all. In the end, it worked out. We played with tempo.”
Reaction from the Bochum camp
Markus Feldhoff (interim head coach): “We showed great resistance in the first half and had that huge chance to go ahead. That would’ve given us a huge boost. What we can’t allow to happen is that we concede two goals from set pieces. We defended well in open play. We know you can end up losing 5-0 to Bayern. They have huge quality.”
Maximilian Wittek (defender): “We had a decent game today, especially in the first half, and made things tough for Bayern. We then went behind through two set pieces. We’d had a huge chance before that, could’ve even gone ahead, and the game would’ve looked different. In the end, Bayern showed their quality. The three goals in the second half all went in the corners. You know what to expect when you play against Bayern. You also have to say that Bayern’s game during the week didn’t help us.”
Moritz Broschinski (forward): “We came up with a clear plan during the week. My chance was exactly what we wanted. I thought the ball was in, but then Minjae Kim came in and cleared. We fought, threw all we had. We’ll find some luck soon.”
