At the end of another packed week of football, FC Bayern did not show any sign of weakness on Matchday 9 in the Bundesliga with a deserved 3-0 win over fourth-place Union Berlin. It meant the coach and players were in a good mood after the match. “Every game is fun at the moment, with the dominance we have and the way we put the opposition under pressure,” said brace scorer Harry Kane. Head coach Vincent Kompany also had nothing but praise for his team: “It wasn't an easy game, so it's a great result.” fcbayern.com has compiled all the reactions to the game.
Reaction to the game against Union Berlin
Max Eberl (board member for sport): “We've now won three games to nil in the league and the cup with great stability. I've heard that this is the first time since 2020 that Bayern have kept three consecutive clean sheets. Nevertheless, we didn't lose our goal threat, even if we weren't setting off fireworks today. It was quite difficult until the penalty. Union were strong runners, defended actively and played very well. Then came the penalty. That cleared the path for us. In the second half, we played like a top team, scored another goal, didn't allow them to get into it and were very stable. In that sense it was good preparation for Wednesday's game in the Champions League."
Vincent Kompany: “The first half reflected Union's strong performance; they defended very well. I was a bit worried that we didn't realise how dangerous the game was in the first half. It's 50-50 sometimes. If you win it, it doesn't look like anything, but if you lose it, it's dangerous. I think the team worked hard across both halves. That helps when you're a good team. I was very pleased with the performance in the second half because we didn't lose our momentum. I can imagine that Union went into the second half with a lot of confidence, but we did very well. It wasn't an easy game, so it's a great result.”
Harry Kane: “It was a very good performance from us. It wasn't an easy game. The fans in the Allianz Arena naturally expect us to win games like this, but we put in a good performance. We knew that Berlin are well organised and compact and can counter-attack well. There were a few moments in the first half where we had to be careful. Every game at the moment is fun, with the dominance we have and the way we put the opposition under pressure. We defend together and attack together. Another clean sheet in the books today is great.”
Thomas Müller: "If we were to analyse the game in detail now, then there were certainly one or two situations today, especially in the first half, where we were also quite lucky. But the approach we're taking at the moment is not only producing a great style of play but also results. We're dominant, we don't allow our opponents too many shots on goal, especially when you compare that to the last few years. We've now won three games to nil against teams that are more defensively orientated. So, of course, it's different when you're playing against Barcelona or Frankfurt. But the fact is that we actually have a lot of control with our style of play and our opponents don't have many promising goalscoring opportunities. The quality is great."
João Palhinha: "It's not easy to keep three clean sheets in a row. We're proud of that, but we have to keep going. We have a very important game on Wednesday, that's what we're focussing on now. Benfica have improved a lot since their new coach has come in. It's a special game for me, of course. We'll fight, we want to play our football and win."
Reaction from the Union Berlin camp
Bo Svensson (head coach): “Congratulations to Bayern for the well-deserved victory. I'm happy with the first half. We let very little through, which sounds strange with a scoreline of 2-0. But you need an optimal run of play to take something away with you. We committed an unnecessary foul to concede the first goal, and the second goal is simply world class. It was difficult in the second half. My team gave everything, I can't really blame them.”
Christopher Trimmel (captain): “The bottom line is that we can live with it because Bayern are the favourites, have incredible quality, and that's just how it works. You need a perfect day to win here. A bit of luck at the back and you have to be ice-cold up front. I myself have managed that once before, but that's an exception. In the end, you can only congratulate Bayern. The pressure is too great to be able to defend everything.”
