Bayern start preparing for Club World Cup game against Boca Juniors

After a day off on Monday, Bayern have turned their attentions to their second group game of the Club World Cup. The squad had been given some time to recover following their 10-0 win over Auckland City in the opening match, but preparations are now in full swing for Friday’s game against Boca Juniors in Miami.

“We want to maintain our freshness and take that into the next game,” said head coach Vincent Kompany after Sunday’s victory in Cincinnati. As a result, there was a spring in the players’ step and a sense of focus as the squad took to the pitch of their training facilities in Orlando on Tuesday morning. Kompany had everyone at his disposal for the session except Minjae Kim, who continues to work individually.

Two giant clubs

Friday’s fixture (3am CEST on Saturday) with the 35-time champions of Argentina could prove decisive in determining the rest of the tournament for both teams. Victory in Miami for Germany’s most decorated club will see them through to the knockout stage with a game to spare. But that isn’t the only reason why Kompany is excited about the match. “A traditional club from Europe against a traditional club from South America. It’ll be special,” the 39-year-old said.
