FC Bayern are through to the second round of the DFB Cup after a last-minute victory. Having been pegged back, Harry Kane’s strike in the fourth minute of added time clinched a deserved 3-2 win at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. “It’s the first round of the cup, it’s never easy and these things can happen. In the end, what matters is that we’re through,” summarised Konrad Laimer afterwards. Coach Vincent Kompany shared those sentiments: “It was cup football, you felt everything. It wasn’t a perfect performance but we’re through and that’s important.” fcbayern.com has the rest of the reaction for you.
Reaction to the cup game at Wehen Wiesbaden

Vincent Kompany: “It was cup football, you felt everything. Content-wise, it wasn’t bad. Credit to Wehen Wiesbaden, they fought endlessly and the club should be proud. I always had the feeling at the end that one of our chances would go in. Their goalkeeper was outstanding tonight. They then took their chances. A 2-0 lead is never enough, you always have to try to go for the third goal. We stayed calm and continued to create lots of chances. It wasn’t a perfect performance but we’re through and that’s important.”

Joshua Kimmich: “It wasn’t luck. We should’ve wrapped it up earlier. The number of chances was extremely high but when you don’t put them away, that’s what happens. It was important that we then stayed calm. In the past, we’ve often lost our nerves towards the end. That’s why I’m glad we stayed patient. You noticed from the start that we wanted to win the game. We had several good chances.”
Harry Kane: “It was a crazy game – sometimes that’s what the cup brings with it. We were in complete control and should’ve been two or three goals in front in the first half. We had some big chances to settle it in the second half too. They kept going and knew they could turn the momentum with one goal. We then had to show character to stay calm in the final 15 minutes. Luckily we managed to get the goal at the end. We know we have some things to improve. We’ve done our job, which was the most important thing, and now we look forward.”

Konrad Laimer: We had enough chances to make it 3-0 or 4-0, and then a team like this sometimes only need one moment. It’s the first round of the cup, it’s never easy and these things can happen. In the end, what matters is that we’re through – and that we maintained our composure in a certain way. Every round of the cup is a race – you either progress or go home. We’ve had to experience that the hard way before. It’s not easy to win this kind of game. We did it and we look forward.”
Reaction from Wehen Wiesbaden
Nils Döring (coach): “At the first moment it was a huge disappointment. Now that’s outweighed by the pride. The boys put up a great fight. We were one minute away. I would have been so happy for the boys, unfortunately it didn’t happen in the end. We showed them too much respect in the first half. At 2-1 we suddenly believed. It was an awesome evening.”
Fatih Kaya (captain): “It’s bitter. Obviously I’m happy about the two goals, that’s something special. Nevertheless, I’d prefer to be in the second round. It’s incredible that we came back from 2-0 down. We can be sad but we should also be proud. We showed what we can do.”
Florian Stritzel (goalkeeper): “It was a rollercoaster of emotions, I have to say. We had the feeling that not much was working for us going forward, but we kept fighting. Obviously we tried to attack with long balls and that’s also how we scored the two goals. Then we defended almost everything until just before the end, but only almost everything.”
