A capacity crowd of 75,000 inside the Allianz Arena ready to watch Bayern take on Borussia Dortmund was the ideal setting to honour the newly crowned best player in the world as the club paid tribute to Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane. Once again from everyone, congrats Harry!
The official ceremony took place on the pitch just before kick-off, led by president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund. Whilst the teams lined up for the pre-match formalities, Kane initially waited in the tunnel. He then stepped onto the pitch with the golden trophy to the frenetic cheers of the fans and walked over to his family and Bayern representatives. After a group photo, Kane handed the Ballon d’Or over to his wife Kate and their children, before joining his teammates to shake hands.
“I’m extremely proud to be a Bayern player. I hope we win many more titles together,” Kane announced to the crowd.
Even whilst the teams were warming up, the Englishman was the centre of attention. A clip showing his Ballon d’Or triumph in London and a message from Kane got the fans in the mood for this special tribute.
After the warm-ups, a golden banner featuring an image of Kane was unfurled in the centre circle. Shortly afterwards, the Bayern striker appeared on the video screen holding the Ballon d’Or as the line-ups were announced. The boards around the pitch were also adorned with a graphic as the Allianz Arena became the more than deserved grand stage for best player in the world over the last year.
