A draw and a record crowd for FC Bayern Women in their first ever Bundesliga match at the Allianz Arena. Alexander Straus' side drew 0-0 with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday evening in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga in front of 19,000 fans. Despite enjoying the majority of the possession and the chances, the Munich girls had to settle for a point.
Magull starts
Straus made just one change to his starting line-up from last weekend's comfortable 2-0 win at SGS Essen. Lina Magull came in for Pernille Harder, who's been ruled out with a ligament injury. Samantha Kerr also missed out with a knock to the knee, along with long-term absentees Sydney Lohmann (ankle), Carolin Simon, Weronika Zawistowska (both cruciate ligament) and Cécilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir (kneecap).
Symbol for breast cancer prevention
To mark 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month' in October, Bayern Women walked out in special kits on their Bundesliga debut at the Allianz Arena. Shirt sponsor Allianz changed the colour of their logo to pink and added a ribbon to it, while the stadium was also lit up in pink after the game.
Even first half
It was a close-fought contest from the off, in which the two defences were on top. The hosts threatened Stina Johannes' goal for the first time in the eighth minute, but Magdalena Eriksson's header from a Katharina Naschenweng corner sailed past the far post.
With Bayern increasingly taking control, Magull had a go from distance on 24 minutes but her shot landed just above the goal. At the other end, Geraldine Reuteler's finish after a Frankfurt counter was no problem for Maria-Luisa Grohs in goal. With half-time approaching, Naschenweng tried from just outside the area but failed to hit the target, and so the teams went in goalless at the break.
Tense second period
The Bavarians took it up a notch after the restart. Just a matter of seconds into the second half, Klara Bühl took aim from a tight angle but Johannes was on hand, as she was from Lea Schüller's effort in the 54th minute.
Bayern continued to push for a lead but couldn't break through the Frankfurt rearguard. Magull had another opportunity in the closing stages with a shot on the turn, but again Johannes was able to save and the match ended in a draw.
Trip to Leipzig before international break
Next for the German champions is an away match at RB Leipzig next Sunday, 22 October. Kick-off at the Cottaweg training centre is at 18:30 CEST. That's followed by the next international break for the women.
