Weronika Zawistowska is staying in Munich! The Poland international has extended her contract with FC Bayern until 2025. The 23-year-old striker joined Bayern Women in 2021 from Polish record champions KKS Czarni Sosnowiec and initially went on loan to 1. FC Köln for two years, before returning to the FC Bayern Campus in summer 2023. Zawistowska scored five goals in 48 appearances in all competitions for Köln. However, the forward is still waiting for her competitive debut in an FCB shirt. She sustained a cruciate ligament tear in pre-season training and is currently undergoing rehab.
‘Great support’
Zawistowska had already shown some impressive performances in friendlies and training sessions ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Now the striker has the opportunity to pick up from that after her injury lay-off. “I’m pleased that I can stay at FC Bayern,” she said. “I’m getting great support here from both the coaching staff and the girls. My focus is now on the rehabilitation and on my return.”
Rech: We have full confidence
Bianca Rech, head of the women’s football section, is looking to the future optimistically: “Weronika produced strong performances during her two years at Köln, which is why we were really excited about her return. Unfortunately, because of the injury she’s not yet had the opportunity to get match practice here. We have full confidence and believe in her qualities, though. We’re glad she can now complete her rehab without worry and then get going with us in the next season.”
Captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir also extended her contract recently:
