Germany Women celebrate convincing win in Norway

A Giulia Gwinn-led Germany maintained their perfect start to World Cup qualifying with a convincing 4-0 win in Norway in their second match. Georgia Stanway came out on top against Iceland and their captain Glódís Viggósdóttir, while Momoko Tanikawa and Japan remain on course at the Asian Cup. fcbayern.com rounds up the latest women’s international action.

Germany triumph in Norway

There was significant Bayern involvement in Germany’s 4-0 success in Norway. Gwinn shored up the right side against the dangerous Caroline Graham Hansen with her industry as well as neatly turning defence into attack. Franziska Kett, whose cross set up the rebound for Elisa Senß to net the opening goal, made some important moves on the wing. Goals from Carlotta Wamser and Vivien Endemann in first-half stoppage time gave the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead, with Jule Brand completing the scoring in the 58th minute. From a Munich point of view, Linda Dallmann also came on in the 60th minute.

Stanway wins Bayern battle against Viggósdóttir

In a direct clash between two FCB Women players, England came out on top against Iceland. Stanway came up against Viggósdóttir – and played a crucial role in Nottingham. After Lucy Bronze gave the Lionesses the lead (22’), they controlled the game for large spells, before Stanway sealed a 2-0 win in the 78th minute from Bronze’s cross. Viggósdóttir organised the Icelandic defence resolutely, but England’s variability out wide proved too much.

On opposing sides: Georgia Stanway and Iceland captain Glódís Viggósdóttir.

Imade scores again

It’s been a very successful international break for FCB forward Edna Imade. The 25-year-old spearheaded Spain’s attack in the 3-1 win against Ukraine and scored the all-important opening goal in the 44th minute with a header from Salma Paralluelo’s cross – her second international goal after netting her first just a few days before against Iceland. Lucia Corrales followed up with a second goal on the stroke of half-time before Vicky López made it 3-0 with a penalty in the 55th minute. Olha Ovdiichuk made the scoreline a little more respectable for the hosts late on (76’).

Edna Imade got on the scoresheet once again in Spain's 3-1 win in Ukraine.

Honours even between Italy and Denmark

There was no winner in the other FCB clash as Italy and Denmark played out a 1-1 draw. Arianna Caruso marshalled the Italian midfield despite an early booking and played her part in the early pressure from the Italians, which resulted in the opening goal from Martina Piemonte (19’). Meanwhile, Pernille Harder kept probing for the Danes and inspired the visitors’ forward drive after the break, which was rewarded with substitute Olivia Holdt’s equaliser (63’). Stine Ballisager was a steadying influence at the back for Denmark.

Japan hammer India

There was a show of strength from Japan as they hit double figures in their second group game in the Women’s Asian Cup, thumping India 11-0 to cement their place at the top of the group. Tanikawa was part of the squad but didn’t feature this time. Yuzuki Yamamoto (4') and Yui Hasegawa (13') set Japan on their way early, before hat-tricks from Hinata Miyazawa and Riko Ueki underlined the difference in class. Kiko Seike also netted twice, with Maya Hijikata the other goalscorer making it 9-0.

Austria beaten by Slovenia

Bayern’s Austrian trio of Barbara DunstMaria Plattner and Katharina Naschenweng suffered a second defeat in World Cup qualifying in Slovenia. With Dunst and Naschenweng in the starting line-up, Austria fell behind after 21 minutes through Zara Kramzar. Attacking changes after the break – including Plattner’s introduction in the 81st minute – failed to bring about a comeback for the visitors, who were unable to find a way to equalise. It means the Austrians are still yet to get any points on the board after two matches, with Germany up next.

Gilles & Canada runners-up at SheBelieves-Cup

Vanessa Gilles started in the centre of defence for Canada in their clash against USA at the SheBelieves Cup. Although it was an even contest for the most part, it was decided in the 55th minute, when Ally Sentnor made it 1-0 to the Americans. Despite their best efforts, the Canadians slipped to their first defeat of the tournament.

In the last match against Argentina, Gilles started on the bench and was brought on at half-time. Her presence improved Canada’s defensive organisation as they kept it at 0-0 in regular time. In the subsequent penalty shootout, the Reds held their nerve and triumphed 3-2. That saw them finish second in the final standings behind USA, with Colombia and Argentina in third and fourth places respectively.

Padilla Bidas & Poland defeated in France

Poland and Natalia Padilla Bidas suffered a 4-1 defeat in their second World Cup qualifier against France, with the Bayern player not involved. Ewa Pajor (29’) cancelled out Mario-Antoinette Katoto’s opener (20’) but Katoto restored the lead with her second before the break (40’). Sakina Karchaoui’s penalty (59’) and Kadidiatou Diani (71’) made sure of the points for the French.

Africa Cup of Nations postponed

Bernadette Amani and Ivory Coast were hit by a late postponement. The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been moved from March to 25 July-16 August 2026 due to the current situation in the Middle East.
