Five milestones in FC Bayern Women’s record run

FC Bayern Women’s 4-1 win against Freiburg on Sunday saw them make history as the first team ever in the Google Pixel Bundesliga to go 45 games in a row without defeat. fcbayern.com takes you back over that record run with five key victories along the way.

Road leads back to Leverkusen

You have to go back almost two years for the last time Bayern tasted defeat in the league, going down 2-0 at Wolfsburg on 12 October 2024. Eight days later, they were back in action away at Bayer Leverkusen looking to bounce back. As we know now, it was the start of a serious response.

At the time, however, things didn’t look too promising. They found themselves 1-0 down at half-time at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion and then 2-1 behind again after Sarah Zadrazil had temporarily levelled proceedings. But Bayern weren’t going to accept back-to-back slips and restored parity again on the hour through Georgia Stanway. And then with 90 minutes gone, the Munich Frauen took the lead for the first time when substitute Alara fired in the winner that took her team back to the top of the table. Few, though, could’ve imagined what sort of sequence of results that goal was going to herald.

Response to last defeat

Five months later, Bayern had their first chance at revenge for that last loss when Wolfsburg came to the Campus in the second half of 2024/25. The 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture was already a distant memory as Bayern laid down a marker and went ahead through Pernille Harder.

The Dane doubled the advantage over her former club with a volley after half-time, before Lea Schüller stretched the lead to three. Lineth Beerensteyn got a consolation for the She-Wolves, but it did nothing to change the result and Bayern’s growing air of invincibility.

Dominance in Frankfurt

One of Bayern’s most impressive displays over the last 45 games came in December 2025 when José Barcala’s side went to Frankfurt on Matchday 12. It was expected to be a tight and hard-fought affair between two of the division’s best teams, but it turned into a procession for the defending and future champions.

The Bavarians brushed Eintracht aside with five unanswered goals, starting with birthday girl Klara Bühl after only 12 minutes. Jovana Damnjanović and Harder then struck before the break to ensure a comfortable advantage, which Damnjanović and Alara added to in the second period for a seriously impressive result. It also took Bayern’s goals tally to 45 goals already after 12 games that season.

A Wolfsburg turnaround

With Bayern 1-0 down at home to Wolfsburg after 45 minutes on Matchday 19 of last season, there were understandable concerns that the unbeaten run could finally be coming to an end. But that was quickly forgotten in a scintillating second half, led by Damnjanović. Her two goals in as many minutes singlehandedly turned the game around and allowed the Reds to get on the front foot in their push for more goals. Those eventually came from Stanway and Bühl to produce a statement 4-1 win over their biggest rivals.

“It’s such an amazing feeling to win a game like this 4-1. I think we’re all really happy today,” Damnjanović said afterwards. Not only did the victory extend Bayern’s lead at the Bundesliga summit but it also stretched their undefeated streak in the league to 34 matches at the time.

No stopping the celebration express in Berlin

The title defence was completed in the capital as a 3-2 win over Union Berlin gave Bayern their fourth Bundesliga crown in a row. Even then, the game was another example of the team’s impressive mentality and resilience, after Edna Imade’s goal was cancelled out by the hosts in the first half. But that didn’t knock them off their stride. They remained patient as they probed for that slight chink in the Irons’ armour.

In the end it was Barbara Dunst’s long-range effort that restored the Munich advantage and took them to the cusp of the title, only for Union to level again. But it was third time lucky for Bayern as super-sub and Germany captain Giulia Gwinn came on to get the goal that brought three points and an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

With the players belting out the song Der Zug hat keine Bremse (The train has no brakes) in the changing room after the win, it was emblematic of this team, winning a fourth straight title and stretching their undefeated streak, which at the time had reached 38 games. And there’s still no stopping the Bayern train, now at 45 matches without any team being able to beat them in the Bundesliga. Just how long can they keep going?
