FCB Women lose Copa Amazonas to Tigres Femenil

FC Bayern Women lost the Copa Amazonas against Mexican first-tier outfit Tigres Femenil on Saturday. Uchenna Grace Kanu's 20th-minute goal was the difference between the two sides in a friendly played out in front of almost 35,000 fans at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey.

Benkarth starts

Goalkeeper Laura Benkarth started Bayern's only fixture of the winter break, but the rest of the side was largely unchanged from their last competitive outing of 2022. That said, coach Alexander Straus made full use of his eight allotted substitutes during the contest.

Tigres take the lead

It was a case of feelers out and clear-cut scoring chances at a premium in the opening stages, before Tigres forged ahead with 20 minutes on the clock. Kanu provided the finishing touch for the hosts, heading in a left-wing cross. Bayern found their groove in the closing stages of the half, but Klara Bühl was unable to convert her team's best chance, firing straight at Tigres goalkeeper Aurora Santiago two minutes before the break.

Wholesale changes

Straus rang the changes for the start of the second half, with Maria Grohs, Linda Dallmann, Sarah Zadrazil and Tuva Hansen entering the fray, the latter making her FCB debut. Sydney Lohmann went close to turning in from Dallmann as Bayern took control of proceedings. However, despite winning a flurry of corners and enjoying the lion's share of possession, the equalising goal proved elusive. Further chances came and went for Carolin Simon and Dallmann as the Copa Amazonas remained in Monterrey.

Competitive restart against Potsdam

Attentions now turn to the Flyeralarm Women's Bundesliga restart. Bayern have two more weeks of preparations, before travelling to Turbine Potsdam on 5 February.
