End-of-year push! FC Bayern Women host Leverkusen at home

Back to everyday league life and into the 2023 year-end push: on Monday evening, FC Bayern Women host Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Matchday 9 of the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. In just the next ten days, the Munich women will play their last four matches of 2023. Kick-off at the home Campus is at 19:30 CET on Monday (tickets). The match will be broadcast live on Sport1, DAZN and Magenta Sport.

Bayern's state of play

In their last match before the recent international break, Munich secured an important victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. Magdalena Eriksson scored in the 21st minute following a pass from Glódís Viggósdóttir to secure a 1-0 win. In the league, they are at the top of the table, unbeaten, with 20 points after eight games. In their last game, they sealed a 2-0 away win against Werder Bremen, with goals from Eriksson (2’) and Katharina Naschenweng (24’). Head coach Alexander Straus’ team are undefeated in their last 25 Bundesliga matches.

Fully focused on Leverkusen: FCB Women are chasing their fifth consecutive Bundesliga win against the Werkself.

The opponents

Only beaten once so far: Bayer 04 Leverkusen boast three wins, four draws and one defeat in the current season and are sixth in the table with 13 points – just one point behind third-placed Hoffenheim. With a 0-0 draw against SGS Essen, a 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt and most recently a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig, coach Robert de Pauw’s team have found themselves in a draw-spree since November

The team news

The FCB Women’s squad remains largely unchanged: head coach Alexander Straus will still be without the long-term injury victims Carolin Simon (ruptured cruciate), Weronika Zawistowska (torn cruciate ligament) and Cécilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir (dislocated patella) against Leverkusen. Pernille Harder will also not be available against the Werkself, but has hopes of at least returning to the squad in 2023. Lea Schüller, on the other hand, who was unable to join up with the Germany squad during the international break, is ready for action again.

The reaction

Alexander Straus had the following to say about the game: “Leverkusen are a very good team and they have developed well in recent years. They’ve already put in some very good performances this season. We definitely have to bring our best game onto the pitch on Monday. Fortunately, we came back from the international break without any injuries and now we can start the final push before Christmas. Granted, it’s four games in a very short space of time, but we have a strong team and are ultimately happy to be in all competitions.”

Klara Bühl: “We have to make good use of the two or three training sessions between the international break and the Leverkusen game to quickly internalise the processes and the system of play. Leverkusen look very well-rehearsed as a team and are always dangerous when attacking. We want to put in a good performance, take the three points here in Munich and ultimately remain top of the table.”

Fan information

Together with the non-profit organisation “Bunt kickt gut”, FC Bayern Women are organising a large “charity raffle” on the Campus grounds. There are numerous FC Bayern items to be won, and 100 per-cent of the proceeds will be donated. In addition to the raffle, there will also be a food truck serving various waffles for a cosy Christmas atmosphere. To round off the festive frolics, FCB partner MAN will be on site with the MAN Christmas truck. In addition to a competition with great prizes, there will also be the opportunity for an exclusive meet & greet with an FCB Women player.

Free shuttle service

Due to snow and ice, the car park capacity at the FC Bayern Campus is somewhat reduced. It is therefore all the more advisable to use the free shuttle buses. These run from the city centre to the FC Bayern Campus: at 18:00 CET from the MSR stop Stachus and at 18:30 CET and 19:00 from the Nordfriedhof. At 21:30 CET, the bus will return to Stachus via Nordfriedhof after the end of the match.
