Bayern are riding a wave of positive results and feelings this week after Monday’s 2-0 victory over Mainz. It gave them a winning start to their home fixtures this season, capped by the returns of Lena Oberdorf and Giulia Gwinn from injury.
The result also extended Bayern’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to 44 games in a row, equalling the league record. José Barcala’s side now have the chance to make history outright as they host Freiburg. Their record in this fixture is positive, with 37 wins from 50 previous meetings (D6, L7). The last defeat was over eight years ago.

Freiburg have long been a fixture on the Bundesliga calendar and finished last season in eighth place. They began this campaign with a 1-1 draw against Hamburg before chalking up a 1-0 win against Union Berlin thanks to Lisa Karl’s goal.
The Black Forest club were busy in the transfer market over the summer. Although they lost several key players in Svenja Fölmli, Sophie Nachtigall, Leela Egli and Ally Gudorf, they did bring in two promising new signings in Amira Arfaoui and İlayda Açıkgöz.

Anna Klink (broken hand) and Stine Ballisager (hamstring) are both still sidelined for this game. Franziska Kett and Alara will likely also miss out with illness, but Sarah Zadrazil could make her long-awaited return to the matchday squad.

José Barcala: “Freiburg are a young team who’ve made a really good impression so far. They have a clear plan, are very well organised and know exactly when they need to go and press. They can also always pose a threat with their quick movements in between the lines. When you’re not coordinated in how you press against them or are too passive in defending, you can quickly have problems. We need to focus on every detail and definitely can’t underestimate them. It certainly won’t be an easy game.”
