The state of play for Bayern
After the crushing setbacks in the Bundesliga top-of-the-table clash at Bayer Leverkusen (0-3) and in the Champions League round of 16 first leg at Lazio (0-1), FCB wanted to show a reaction last Sunday at VfL Bochum. However, despite taking an early 1-0 lead, the Reds were once again unfortunately on the end of a 3-2 loss. That makes it all the more important to get back to winning ways against top-class opponents Leipzig on Saturday and keep their hopes of the title alive. Bayern's home record so far this season gives them plenty of hope for a crucial win: they've won nine of their 11 Bundesliga games at the Allianz Arena.
"It's a really difficult match tomorrow," said head coach Thomas Tuchel in his press conference ahead of the meeting with last season's third-placed team. "Leipzig have a lot of things that can hurt us. It must be clear to all that we have to go to our absolute physical and mental limit." During the week, it was announced that FC Bayern and Tuchel will part company in the summer. The 50-year-old added: "I love the job and obviously will do it with the same energy as before. The situation is resolved, which hopefully makes it clear and brings freedom."

The opponents: RB Leipzig
The visitors have demonstrated in recent times that they're capable of producing big performances in Munich. RB won 3-1 at the Allianz Arena on the penultimate matchday of last season and 3-0 in the Supercup at the start of this term, with Dani Olmo scoring a hat-trick. In fact, Bayern are winless in the last four meetings with Leipzig. In the reverse fixture in Saxony, FCB came from 2-0 down at the break to salvage a 2-2 draw through goals from Harry Kane and Leroy Sané.
RB and top goalscorer Loïs Openda (18 BL goals) made a flying start to the season with seven wins from their first eight games in all competitions – mostly by clear margins. Since then their form has dipped but they have performed well against top teams, beating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 and losing narrowly to Leverkusen twice and to Real Madrid. The Red Bulls will travel to the 14-time Champions League winners at the beginning of March to battle it out for a place in the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition. "Bayern are particularly strong at home," commented coach Marco Rose ahead of the trip. "Things aren't coming easily to them at the moment, they're lacking a bit of confidence, but it remains tough to win in Munich."

The team news
Kingsley Coman (MCL), Sacha Boey, Noussair Mazraoui (both hamstring strain), Tarek Buchmann (muscular), Bouna Sarr (ACL), Serge Gnabry (adductor) and Alphonso Davies (MCL) remain sidelined. Tuchel must also do without Dayot Upamecano, who's suspended after his sending-off at Bochum. Konrad Laimer is set to return to the squad against his former club following his calf injury.
For Leipzig, defender Lukas Klostermann is absent because of a muscle injury, meaning Mohamed Simakan is likely to partner captain Willi Orban in the centre of defence again, as Rose confirmed in his press conference. Goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi has been nursing a knock this week but will be able to play.
What the coaches say
„The recent results against Leipzig speak for themselves. We've said enough times that we've trained well, we've not delivered enough times. Because of injuries, we're missing a bit of speed and also a recognised right-back. We'll find solutions and go on the attack tomorrow.”
Thomas Tuchel
„Bayern are struggling at the moment, but they're a great team with a top coach and outstanding individual players. They've dominated German football for years. They've got guys who've learned to be winners over the years. They'll do everything to change the situation.”
Marco Rose (RB Leipzig)
