Pre-season training kicks off with Intensive session
They're back! On Friday the 2020 treble winners trained for the first time again on the Säbener Straße training ground. Barely three weeks after the triumph in Lisbon, FC Bayern started their short pre-season for the new campaign, which will kick off next Friday with the Bundesliga opener against Schalke 04.
Flick absent - Boateng and Davies train individually
After three days of corona tests, virtual training and performance diagnostics, they got back onto the pitch for the first time - unfortunately without Hansi Flick. The head coach of the Champions League winners was attending the funeral of the Hoffenheim president Peter Hofmann, who passed away a week ago. Assistant coach Hermann Gerland took charge of the session in his place. In addition, the injured Tanguy Nianzou was also absent, Jérôme Boateng worked individually on the adjacent pitch and Alphonso Davies completed his programme at the performance centre.

Grafting for new success
"The players who play for FC Bayern Munich want to reaffirm their success," said Flick on Wednesday when he took the CL trophy to the FC Bayern Museum. Accordingly, the session began with stability and strengthening exercises, which made the muscles ache just by watching. This was followed by various intensive forms of match practice and finally a bit of interval training. What was remarkable was that the squad moved the ball around like they'd never been away and the mood in the team was excellent despite all the hard work. It was a training session that whetted the appetite for the new season!
On Friday FC Bayern also had reason to celebrate. Club legend Franz Beckenbauer turned 75:
