Head coach Julian Nagelsmann provided updates on his squad in the pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of the Bundesliga away game at Eintracht Frankfurt. Manuel Neuer (knee), Leon Goretzka (rehab training after knee problem), Alphonso Davies (myocarditis), Corentin Tolisso (muscle injury) and Thomas Müller (positive Covid-19 test) are all ruled out of Saturday’s game.
Neuer on the road to recovery
Good news about the Germany keeper: According to Nagelsmann, Neuer is not feeling “any major reaction in his knee.” The rehab programme is also going equally as well for Goretzka with “steps in the right direction” and he has been able work on drills with the ball. With Davies it is a case of waiting for further medical checks but the head coach said he is in “good spirits”. Marcel Sabitzer, Marc Roca and Jamal Musiala are available as replacements for the sidelined Tolisso and Müller. The Germany international, who will celebrate his nineteenth birthday on the day of the match, is the “number one candidate to come in for Thomas” according to Nagelsmann. Musiala would make his comeback at Frankfurt following a Covid-19 infection.
Coman returns
And it is also looking good for Lucas Hernández and Kingsley Coman. Hernández has “recently felt a twinge but it is within reasonable bounds,” and Coman is available for Saturday after recovering from a muscle problem.
