Säbener Straße was full of activity on Friday. For head coach Julian Nagelsmann and his coaching team, there was a welcome increase in personnel for the afternoon session, with new signings Sadio Mané and Noussair Mazraoui taking part in training for the first time following their transfers from Liverpool and Ajax respectively. The likes of Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman and Alphonso Davies also joined following their international exploits in June.
Training group not yet complete
The first group of players, led by Sven Ulreich, Dayot Upamecano and Ryan Gravenberch, had already kicked off the preparations for the 2022/23 season at the start of this week after the obligatory medical and performance tests. On Friday, the internationals walked onto the grass at Säbener Straße just after 16:00 in temperatures of 19 degrees, enlarging the FCB training group, which will be completed in the coming days by latecomers such as Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller.
Bring on the new season
When Sadio Mané left the FCB dressing room for the first time and turned right towards the training ground, the striker gazed across the grounds. At Säbener Straße, the Senegalese superstar will work hard with his teammates in the coming weeks and months to bring titles to Munich. The other two summer signings, Mazraoui and Gravenberch, also want to play their part and grabbed the ball immediately during the warm-up together with Mané, Davies, Joshua Zirkzee and Jamal Musiala. Meanwhile, midfield generals Kimmich and Goretzka went out in front during the first lap of the pitch, leading by example.
Nagelsmann holds talks
After the warm-up, the chirpy Nagelsmann - who had a number of one-to-one chats with the likes of Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer - addressed the group, welcoming the three new arrivals and gearing up his title-winning team for the forthcoming tasks and two-games-a-week rhythm.
Mané gets stuck in
After the initial programme including stabilisation exercises with fitness coach Peter Schlösser, it was about sequences of play in various positional drills. CEO Oliver Kahn watched parts of the session by the side of the field and heard the experienced Mané already giving his first instructions and repeatedly shouting "together" across the pitch, while Mazraoui's nickname "Nouz" appeared to be already established among a few of his teammates.

The first goals
Champion coach Nagelsmann interrupted the session before the concluding game to give his squad some input on the tactics board, before Coman and Co got moving again. At 16:57 local time, Mazraoui scored his first goal in Bayern training kit with a right-footed shot from Zirkzee’s pass, and 12 minutes later Mané followed up with his first strike. The Senegalese almost provided a spectacular ending to the 90-minute session with a scissor kick, but in training not everything comes off. Still, Nagelsmann’s men have a few weeks to prepare for the Supercup against RB Leipzig on 30 July and the Bundesliga opener at Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt on 5 August.
