A quick run down the wing, a flick to take the ball inside and then an unstoppable finish on his left foot – Leroy Sane had the Allianz Arena on its collective feet in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. The 28-year-old’s equaliser on the night wasn’t just vital in the tie but also a joy to watch. No surprise, then, that fans have named it Bayern’s Goal of the Month for April 2024.
The goal quickly evoked memories of his predecessor in the No.10 shirt, thinking back to the days when Arjen Robben would drive at his opponents and then cut inside in his trademark fashion – just like Sane did up against Ferland Mendy. Sane even said afterwards on social media that he’d learned from the best.

It was a big win for Sane in the vote, with 55 percent of fans choosing his Robben imitation. Raphael Guerreiro came second for his long-range effort in the 2-0 win against Köln (17 percent), followed by Harry Kane’s free-kick in the 5-1 victory at Union Berlin (15 percent).
The players said goodbye to fans at the Allianz Arena on Sunday after the last home game of the season:
