Eintracht Frankfurt vs. FC Bayern: the facts ahead of the Bundesliga showdown

Top-of-the-table clash reloaded! Just eight days after the meeting with challengers Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC Bayern again face the team currently second in the table on Sunday evening (17:30 CEST) – this time it's Eintracht Frankfurt. What should offer Bayern encouragement and what other stats and figures are relevant to the match? Find out in the facts.

Bayern can handle the pressure

Serge Gnabry watches as his shot hits the post against Leverkusen

Just last weekend, Bayern took on the second-placed team as leaders. Despite having the better chances, the game ended 1-1.

Although Bayern had to settle for just one point against Leverkusen last weekend despite having the better chances, the Munich men have proven their credentials in top-of-the-table clashes time and time again in recent years. Since a 4-1 loss at VfL Wolfsburg in January 2015, FCB have not lost a game as leaders against their closest pursuers. The record in 17 meetings since then reads 11 wins and six draws from a Munich point of view. It has been a while since Eintracht Frankfurt have been their opponents in a top two match-up, though: the two clubs occupy the first two positions in the table ahead of a meeting for the first time since April 1994 – Bayern won 2-1 at home as leaders on that occasion.

Away record

No team will fancy hosting Bayern with this record: after the first three away matches of this Bundesliga campaign, the Reds boast nine points and a goal difference of +11. That's the best tally in the history of this league at this stage of the season, no less! Upcoming opponents Frankfurt held the previous record of nine points and +10 goals at the start of the 1993/94 campaign. The 14 goals scored by Bayern in three outings on the road is also a Bundesliga best: only FCB themselves previously achieved this under Julian Nagelsmann in 2022/23.

Kompany chasing Hitzfeld

Vincent Kompany applauds on the touchline

Vincent Kompany could make it four wins from four Bundesliga away matches in Frankfurt - that would be a record.

If Vincent Kompany guides his team to another away victory at Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday, he'd become only the second Bayern head coach after Ottmar Hitzfeld in 1998 to win his first four Bundesliga away games with the club. Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, only Ivica Horvat achieved this with Eintracht in 1964.

Battle of the top scorers: Marmoush vs. Kane

Harry Kane celebrates a goal against Werder Bremen

Harry Kane has been directly involved in nine goals in the Bundesliga this season - joint top with Omar Marmoush.

Harry Kane or Omar Marmoush – who will come out on top in the battle of the two top goalscorers in the Bundesliga at present? Frankfurt's Marmoush has set a new club record with six goals on the first five matchdays, with Kane just behind him in the goalscoring chart on five. When combined with assists, the two strikers are joint top with nine direct goal involvements each.

Usually lively affairs

A lot has happened between Eintracht and Bayern in recent times. In their last 11 meetings in the Bundesliga, the Munich men have won by a margin of four or more goals on four occasions, while the Hessians have done so twice – including the last encounter in Frankfurt last December. In terms of results, though, the recent head-to-head record is close, with three wins apice and one draw from the last seven matches. Overall, however, the German record champions are way ahead: in 106 clashes in the German top flight, 58 have gone the way of FCB, 25 of Frankfurt and 23 have been drawn.
