Feyenoord and Bayern have only met twice before in European competition, with the Bavarians remaining unbeaten in the 2001/02 Champions League group stage (2-2 A, 3-1 H). It’s not just the history books that given Bayern hope for victory in the third meeting this Wednesday. Here’s the key stats and facts ahead of visiting the Netherlands for Matchday 7 of the league phase.
Good run against Dutch opposition
It’s over 25 years since Bayern lost a Champions League game against a team from the Netherlands. That came away at PSV Eindhoven in October 1999 (2-1). Since then, the Bavarians have won four out of eight such fixtures, with the last meetings coming against Ajax in the 2018/19 group stage (1-1 draw in Munich, 3-3 draw in Amsterdam). It’s a run that the Reds want to keep going in Rotterdam.
Feyenoord games promise goals
Vincent Kompany's men have shown already this season that they can score big, like with the 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb or the 5-1 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk. However, Feyenoord are also good for goals – at both ends. No team has seen more goals scored in their Champions League fixtures this season than the Dutch side (14 for Feyenoord, 15 against).
Kane set for 50th appearance
Harry Kane is set to make the 50th Champions League appearance of his career on Wednesday. The striker has played 17 of them so far in Bayern colours, scoring 13 goals. In total he’s netted 34 times in 49 games in Europe’s top club competition. The only two players to have scored more from their first 50 Champions League games are Erling Haaland (46 in 45 games) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (43).
Masterful Musiala
One of the main men for setting up the likes of Kane in Europe this season has been Jamal Musiala. No player created more shooting chances for teammates in the Champions League last year than our No.42 (28). We’re all expecting more of the same from the 21-year-old as the competition returns for 2025.
